To behold the enchanting city of Machu Picchu is reason enough to visit Peru. But a train journey to the lost Imperial City of the Incas is just the beginning of this incredible holiday, which also includes stays in two glorious Peruvian cities, a cruise on Lake Titicaca and the chance to witness colourful island communities unchanged by the modern world.

YOUR HOLIDAY ITINERARY

DAY 1. Join the flight to Lima, via Amsterdam. Upon arrival we will transfer to your hotel in Miraflores with the rest of the day free for you to relax. Miraflores is the prime shopping district in Lima.

DAY 2. After breakfast this morning, we’ll transfer to the airport for the short flight to Cusco. Upon arrival you’ll be taken to your hotel in El Valle Sagrado de los Incas (the Sacred Valley of the Incas), where you’ll have the rest of the day free.

DAY 3. This morning after breakfast join the included full day excursion beginning with the colourful and lively artisans’ market in the pretty Andean town of Pisac. This is followed by a tour of the Pisac Ruins. Next we visit beautiful Ollantaytambo, wonderfully located beside the Urubamba River and surrounded by terraces and distant snow-capped peaks. After an included lunch, there’ll be ample time to explore this town and to discover the remarkable temple ruins that provide a fine view over the old town.

DAY 4. Today we transfer to Ollantaytambo station for a full day tour by Vistadome train to the Imperial city of Machu Picchu, one of the most spectacular sites on earth. After time to explore, enjoy lunch at the Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge, followed by an afternoon return to Cusco and transfer to the hotel.

DAY 5. The day begins with a half-day city tour of Cusco, one of the most glorious cities in South America, including the fascinating Inca ruins of Sacsayhuamán and Qoricancha, the Temple of the Sun. In the evening join us for an optional dinner at the Tunupa Cusco Restaurant, followed by a traditional show.

DAY 6. Transfer to the station for the Andean Explorer train journey from Cusco to Lake Titicaca with lunch included. On arrival you’ll be transferred to your hotel on Lake Titicaca, the world's highest navigable body of water at 3,800m (12,460ft).

DAY 7. Enjoy one of the highlights of your holiday, a full-day boat cruise on enchanting Lake Titicaca to the Uros and Taquile Islands. Next we cruise to Taquile, an amazingly beautiful island inhabited for over 10,000 years, complete with Inca and pre-Inca stone ruins. Lunch is included and return to your hotel will be late afternoon.

DAY 8. Morning transfer to Juliaca Airport for the flight to Lima. Upon arrival transfer to your hotel and in the afternoon join our Lima City Tour,

DAY 9. Time at leisure before an afternoon transfer to the Jorge Chavez Lima-Callao International airport for the return flight to the UK via Amsterdam.

DAY 10. Arrival at the airport.
